Blog Backup 2/3…How to Backup Your Database

I’d like to continue the 3 part series on backing up your Blogs valuable Database, Files, and Folders with an easy to install WordPress Plugin called the “WP-DB-Backup Plugin”. You can download this PlugIn here: http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/wp-db-backup/ I personally use this Plugin on all of my Blogs including www.internetdollars.net, www.cheapclix.net, www.homesquadcities.net, and www.mlm-im.com.

First you will want to download and install this PlugIn is the traditional manner and the uploading it using your FTP program to your WordPress Blogs’ Public HTML file>wp-admin>wp-content> wp-Plugins directory. You will want to download the entire folder after downloading it, unzipping it (extract all), and saving it to an easily accessible place like your desktop. Then simply upload the entire WP-DB-BU Plugin folder to your wp-PlugIn directory.

From this point you will want to go to your WP-admin area, click on “Plugins” at the top right of your admin home page, and then scroll down the Plugins page until you see the WP-DB-BU” Plugin. Then on the right side of the Plugin listing, click on “Activate”.

Next, go the the “Manage” tab on your Admin area homepage, and click on “Backup”. From here you should leave everything on the right side the as is, and IF you have files on the right side, i suggest you do not check them as this may cause a “Overload” later when you “Schedule” a routine backup to your email address. The email programs have a limited amount of space, and the files on the right are not important.

You will then want to scroll down to the “Backup Options”, and select the “Download to your computer” button, and then click on “Backup now”. Do not do anything while this is Backing Up such as “refreshing” the page, using your “Back Arrow”, or close your browser as this will terminate the Backup process.

After doing this, you will want to scroll down just below the “Backup Options” area and you will see a line that includes a “Highlighted Area” labeled “Backup” and this will begin the process to save your Data Base to a file that you specify. i suggest that you create a folder called “WordPress Database backup” to save your backup in.

A great feature of this WordPress Database backup Plugin is that you can schedule daily, every other day and weekly backups. I suggest that you select the “Weekly” backup feature. Then select an Email address that you want your Database backup to be sent to. Because MOST Email servers have limited space, you might want to open an Email (Gmail) account with Google as they have much more space on their Email servers than anyone else. You should however check your Google Gmail account periodically and archive your past Backups. No more than the last 3 saved backups are necessary. This will keep the chances of your Gmail In box from becoming full and hence, you might miss some other important incoming Emails.

And it’s that simple to make sure that your BLOG’s Database is backed up on a regular basis to a safe place. However, it’s not a bad idea to save your most recent Database Backup to either a DVD/ CD, or Zip Drive for storage in a protected area such as a “Fire Protected Safe”. It’s up to you, but it’s like insurance….”You won’t cialis 20 mg need it until you need it”!

If you are finding value in these articles, I’d really love to hear your comments by replying to this post.

Succes in your journey,
